The University of Akron has provided a selection of photographs, student newspapers, and yearbooks. The materials cover the years of 1960-1989, on topics including: the takeover of the Administration Building by the Black United Students (B.U.S.) in 1969; vigils and protests held on campus in the wake of the Kent State Shootings; protests regarding the Vietnam War and civil rights; the Selma Sympathy March in Akron in 1965; and protests of American support of the Shah of Iran in 1979-80. The collections include the University Photograph Collection- Campus Disturbances, The Buchtelite Student Newspaper, the Tel-Buch Yearbook collection, and the Opie Evans Photographic Collection.

Description: The Opie Evans Papers consist of archival materials documenting the life and work of African-American photographer, publisher, and businessman Opie Evans of Akron, Ohio. The papers include hundreds of photographic prints and negatives taken or collected by Evans during his career that provide a rich visual history of the African-American community in Akron and surrounding areas during the middle of the twentieth century.
