University of Illinois-Chicago

The University of Illinois at Chicago has contributed primary materials for Project Stand from the UIC Office of Student Affairs, and from the Department of History’s Melvin G. Holli Collection. The Student Affairs collection includes copies of The Chicago Circle Focus, a progressive independent student newspaper from 1969 published “by and for the students”, which rejected any subsidy for publication from the university to maintain its independent voice on campus.  The Melvin G. Holli Collection contains several folders of flyers, posters, and other printed materials advertising protests, rallies, and campus speakers from the late 1960’s to the 1980’s. The collection also contains an issue of The Chicago Circle Focus detailing the 1970 “May Day” student strike.
